Female Suspect Evades Police Following High-Velocity Chase from Southern California into Mexico
A female individual previously residing at a female recovery facility in the state of California reportedly took a stolen van and led a hours-long police chase culminating with her crossing the border into the nation of Mexico on the start of the week.
Vehicle Theft Discovered from Sober Living Home
As stated in a police announcement, a second woman, the owner of the vehicle, 45, notified authorities that her 2004 gray Toyota Sienna was stolen, along with her vehicle key. The owner, who manages two female recovery residences, identified the alleged thief as Alyssa Wilson at Diana’s House Sober Living, located approximately 60 minutes north-west of LA.
“My keys were stolen from my house manager’s purse. I arrived just as it was occurring,” she said, noting that the minivan is used for the facility’s daily operations.
High-Speed Pursuit Develops Across Several Regions
Officials located the stolen vehicle about 12 miles north in a nearby city, where they attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect did not comply and sped away. She attained speeds of about 145km/h on the 118 freeway until the chase continued into LA County. At that juncture, Ventura county authorities transferred the operation to the California highway patrol once Wilson merged onto the Interstate 405 heading south.
“This one is very unique in the sense of the road situation allowing individuals to persist on the freeway and extend this chase,” commented a public information officer from the local law enforcement agency.
The suspect reportedly dodged all the spike strips tossed on the roadway by police, as seen in aerial videos.
International Getaway and Aftermath
The chase eventually reached the US-Mexico border by 1.30pm, leading to the CHP to terminate the chase due to legal limitations.
Walters stated on Tuesday that the vehicle was situated in Tijuana, Mexico and that she was working with the authorities to recover the vehicle.
“Ultimately, I’m not concerned with the car,” she remarked. “I’m relieved knowing she was not injured. The minivan is easily substituted.”
Insight from the Facility Operator
The sober living home owner, who has run Diana’s House Sober Living since last October, recognizes that the journey toward sobriety from addiction and emotional distress is not always linear.
“This is a mental health and addiction crisis,” she said. “There is a need for more support. We need greater resources for those that are struggling.”
